Well now that the 68 C10 is done and my grandpa has sold his flipper cars, there was space in the garage and you cant have that. So we have been looking at various cars on craigslist and facebook marketplace for a deal on the next project. Well sometimes old methods of finding projects still work. Found our next project by chance. On the way to look at something else and spotted the grille of this 33 Ford pickup sitting buried in this garage that had the door up. Had to knock on the door and ask if the truck could be for sale. People said maybe, so left our number and went on our way. Well got the call that yep they would consider selling it and said we could come look at it as they had cleaned all the stuff off it. So on Saturday my grandfather and I drove over and looked this pickup over and we had to have it as its the nicest sheet metal we have seen in years up for sale. Its as good as my current 33 pickup I have sitting in the garage. So a deal was struck and we hauled this pickup home. So here is the rundown of this pickup:
1933 Ford Pickup
All original 1933 sheet metal, grille is a 1934 piece. Only difference is the trim around the bars and the chrome little piece that ties into the radiator cap. Otherwise its the exact same as 33 grille
Bed has been shortened a little bit to get rid of the massive overhang these had stock
The spare tire well in the passenger side front fender has been removed and filled
Front suspension is an original undropped I beam axle, buts its out of a 35-48 Ford as the spring is positioned in “suicide” style (it sits in front of the axle not on top) has a stock wishbone as well. We think its a 40 Ford setup as that was the first year of hydraulic brakes which this has on it.
The rear end is a 66/67 Ford Bronco 9 inch unit with parallel leaf springs.
The engine and transmission is a 70s Toyota 2T engine and matching 5 speed. I can safely say that is the first thing getting pulled out and tossed out. The current plan is to swap in a 1956 Corvette 265ci V8 we have had on a stand for years and mate it to a early F1 3 speed manual trans to nail a late 50's hot rod.
The interior is very old school tuck and roll with diamonds. Its something very 60s style and its in pretty good shape.
Overall the truck is super shape, we have not found any rust so far any super crazy/questionable work that we typically find post purchase. Still expect a surprise at some point, but this is going to be a nice winter project.

Not sure yet, but the chances are high it will be. The engine had to be a Chevy as thats what we always have lying around, lol

Wow, it’s weird to see one of these that isn’t totally ratty or hotrodded out. I dig it.

Woah that thing is really straight. I never see trucks like that that aren’t rodded to be almost unrecognizable. I like how this one looks pretty tame from the outside but the mechanical stuff is somewhat modernized for better drivability . It could be kind of a stealth build I think.

Yeah the lack of major cutting on the sheet metal is the best thing. Once the drivetrain and suspension is fixed to be more 50's correct, it will be really cool. The motor will similar to what we have in our 56 Chevy custom, mainly with the carb set up.
The build style will similar to this, but different color scheme, but that period correct late 50's early 60's look.

I like it. I hope you keep the exterior pretty subtle apart from maybe a cool paint color as this one is just begging to be a good period driver. I like the 50s-60s rod look but sometimes they can be a little overly extreme. I tend to like more stock looks myself with a little flair around the wheels and some minor performance upgrades.

yeah no plans for crazy on the exterior. Not gonna chop the top or ditch the fenders. Only thing is we might run no hood depending on the motor, but just a nice clean pickup. Not sure on the wheels but they will be a 15" era appropriate wheel

I really like your style. Your prior projects have always been profoundly classy in a way I can only hope to match someday.

Wow that is clean. Id leave the yota engine in and boost it. Way more unique than a sbc in a Ford.
Who am i kidding if it was mine id have a 4bt with a stack out the side

yeah nothing less than V8's in our shop. Especially when the goal is a ear correct 50s style hot rod.

Makes sense if you have the engines might as well use them. I just have a bad taste for sbc after my LS1 crapped the bed in 150miles

You’re going to make it a bro-dozer, right? That truck is dying for some stacks in the bed.

Maybe 50's hot rod style???? Chop the top a bit, ditch the bumpers, punch some louvers in the hood.... but the one you show is nice too.

yeah we are not chopping it. Had a chopped top truck before and we sold it because it was not comfortable, even on short drives. The rear bumper is gone for sure, but will put a 32 Ford passenger car bumper up front.
